3-way valve - This device helps control the
percentage of water flow from two different sources including off positions.

Advantage Bead Filter Guarantee - One year unconditional satisfaction guarantee. 100% refund plus return shipping.
Advantage Bead Filters - (ABF) This filter
performs as a mechanical filter that traps debris and crud, and has massive biological
capacity for properly filtering Koi and fish ponds. It's backwash only takes four (4) minutes.
The ABF works wonders for any pond.
Advantage Filters - Filters that are
manufactured by Sacramento Koi.
Advantage Glass Filters - (AGF) This filter
traps fine debris floating through the pond and is installed after
the Advantage Bead Filter. The clarity of water improvement is amazingly
good when installed after the Advantage Bead Filter. This filter is similar to the sand filter, only instead of sand, it filters with irregularly shaped glass to avoid "channeling"
like that of the sand filters.
Artesian Dial-A-Flow - A high-quality self-priming
energy efficient pump that gives you the ability to adjust the flow rate of the
pump by adjusting the speed.. The lower the speed, the lower the
flow and amps...
Artesian series pumps - Pond pumps designed
to run 24/7 with high efficiency and reliability for a pond and/or water feature. All Artesian series are self-priming.

B
Backwashing - Running water through a system backwards to flush out crud and waste from a filter through a waste pipe.
Biological capacity - The amount of, or total
surface area that beneficial bacteria can live on.
BioShowers - A high flow biological filtering system that utilizes trays to house the media. The fast flow cascades down through each tray over the media creating an optimum aerated environment for biological bacterium to thrive.
Considered high end filtration.
Bottom drain - Located in the bottom surface
of ponds to draw water to the filtration system. Mechanically removes bottom waste, it also brings the much needed oxygen down to lower levels of deeper ponds. This also provides circulation which prevents stagnant water.

C
Check valve - Permits flow in only one direction.
Available in clear as well as solid color. Ponds should use a
"Swing" type check valve that does not produce any added
back pressure like that of a spring loaded check valve. The Swing
check valve uses gravity to shut off the reverse flow.

D
Dissolved organic compounds -
(DOC) Commonly form on the surface of ponds or around the pond's edge.
The major source of dissolved organics are fish food, fish wastes
and other particulate organic material (leaves, dead plants, etc)
that are colonized by bacteria which break the material down into
dissolved substances. More fish and feeding too often means a
higher concentration of organic substances.

Emperor Aquatics, INC. - A company that produces
ultra violet filters and other pond related products.

F
Filter, bead - Filters which clear water significantly, and have high biological capacity.
Filter, glass - Filters which are secondary to the bead filters, they give water a "polished" look (extremely clear).
Filter, pond - Generic filters that clean water for a pond, a system that keeps your pond clear
from properly removing crud and debris mechanically and biologically
to maintain a healthy pond for aquatic life.
Filter, UV - Filters which kill bad bacteria via
ultra violet (U.V.) light. They also kill the DNS of water bourn
algae as the this water passes through the UV chamber.
Flow meter - This item measures the flow rate of water going through your system at a given point in time.
Flow rates - How fast water is running through your filtration system.
Flow rates are important to maintaining a healthy filtration
system running properly.
Footprint - How much actual area an item takes up on ground, square footage.

Koi fish - Are decorative domesticated varieties of the common carp.
Prices can range well into the thousands of dollars for top
quality Koi.
Koi ponds - Ponds specifically engineered and designed for Koi fish to thrive in.

L
Leaf trap basket - This traps large debris from entering the filtration system. Must be emptied manually.
It is considered as a mechanical filter.

leaves, debris, dirt and or crud. (Leaf traps, settling tanks,

Performance Pro Pump - High efficiency and reliability,
excellent pumps for ponds. Designed to run 24/7
Polished water - Considered as water that is
free of most all debris, large and fine from the water column. Easily achieved
by installing an Advantage bead and Glass filtration system.

R
Reducer valve - Lowers the amount of flow to any given part of your
plumbing system. Turning the handle incrementally reduces the gate
valve to restrict and maintain the flow.

S
Self priming - Pumps that are self priming
do not require manually flooding liquid through a system in order to
start using it. (priming). Self priming pumps usually will draw water
through the intake intake after a short amount of time, typically from
0 -15 minutes.
Settling tanks - Tanks which have water flowing through them
slow enough to permit leaves, fish waste, dirt, crud or other heavy
items drops to the bottom as water continues through to the rest of the system.
Skimmer - Removes leaves and dirt from the surface of the pond. Skims off the "dissolved organic compounds".

UV light sterilizer - A device that gives a physical treatment which kills the DNA of waterborne green algae (keeps water clear) sterilizes and kills many types of bad bacteria (which gives you healthier fish).

Vortex - A well designed settling tank which has the primary purpose of collecting and trapping most of the crud that enters the filtration system. Easily installed.
